What is the Controversy about Chelation Therapy?
EDTA Chelation Therapy is a relatively inexpensive means of treating chronic illness, especially illness involving the cardiovascular system. A number of studies have been undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of EDTA in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. These studies showed improvement with the therapy.
Negative publicity was spurred surrounding patients who developed complications; however these complications developed as a result of delivering too much EDTA too quickly. The American College for the Advancement in Medicine has developed protocols that are proven and safe.
Additionally, much of the controversy stems from the fact that many physicians are simply not educated in the biochemical effects of the treatments and are thus wary.
