What is EDTA Chelation Therapy?
Chelation is the binding of one substance to another. Chelation Therapy is simply an intravenous or oral therapy designed to have one substance bind up and remove another substance, such as toxic metals, from the body. EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid) used intravenously is what most people are familiar with for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
EDTA was developed as an antidote to arsenic gas poisoning in the 1920’s and for decades it was added to municipal water supplies to bind up heavy metals such as arsenic in ground water. EDTA is also the treatment of choice for lead poisoning.
